Who We Are
A group of mothers who want to support birth mothers
We are Veronica, Jackie, Sarah & Jacqui. We also have help from Nuala and Becca. We decided to set up Shine Bury St Edmunds because we were very concerned that there was a huge lack of support for birth mothers who had had their children removed from their care. We wanted to set up a support group where the emphasis was not on the birth mothers ‘jumping through hoops’ but on kindness, respecting that everyone deserves the right to feel safe and to be valued.
We are all mothers and some of us are also grandmothers. We have a wide range of experiences in our working and also our home lives. Most of all, we hold a deep desire to use our experiences to help others.
To live without children in a society that is very blaming and judgemental is very hard. We really hope to create a friendly environment where all the birth mothers feel they can come along and receive a warm welcome.
About Shine Bury St Edmunds CIC
At Shine Bury St Edmunds, we offer a safe space for birth mothers who no longer have their children in their care, whether this is due to adoption, long term foster care or other long term arrangement.
We are totally independent from the local authority.
Our aim is to provide a kind, welcoming and non-judgemental group, somewhere for mothers to feel free to talk about their circumstances, if they wish. Or to just attend in the knowledge that they are in the company of others who have experienced the trauma of having a child/ren removed from their care.
Everyone will receive a warm welcome, refreshments will be available.
There will be craft materials for those that would like to use them.
We will also offer help with Letterbox letters and with accessing further advice and support.
The women attending the group will be encouraged to help to shape the group with their own ideas and suggestions. Everyone is welcome to take part as much as they wish.
Supporters
Please support us so that we can continue to support local birth mothers. We are looking for small donations, particularly of wellbeing items eg make up, little soaps, hand cream, chocolate etc
